Enjoy a leisurely, on-the-go breakfast with Pancake In A Cup. It’s FUN for kids, too, and the toppings are endless.

While a stack of tender buttermilk pancakes will always be the American dream, it might not be a reality for busy mornings. Pancake In A Cup ensures a home-cooked flapjack that takes less than a minute to cook.
However, I want to be honest with this recipe, too! This is a quick way to enjoy a pancake, and yes, it’s delicious, but it’s not the same as making classic pancakes on the griddle or in a frying pan. It might be a little less tender and fluffy than a traditional pancake, but I have to say it’s still impressive in taste. You can top this pancake in a cup with fresh fruit, whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles, or even mix in a few chocolate chips for a breakfast party.
This easy recipe requires Bisquick and milk (or buttermilk). These two ingredients are mixed in a mug and baked in the microwave. This fun and quick breakfast is also excellent for kids because they each get their own mug.
Pancake In A Cup

Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 1/4 Cup Bisquick
- 2 Tablespoons Milk OR Buttermilk
Optional Toppings:
- Fruit (think sliced strawberries, bananas, or blueberries)
Equipment Needed:
- Microwave-Safe Cup (like a coffee mug)
- Fork (using a fork makes mixing easier)
- Microwave
How To Make Pancakes In A Cup, Step-By-Step

Step 1: Add the Bisquick pancake mix and the milk (or buttermilk) to a mug.
Step 2: Mix the ingredients thoroughly using a fork. If you want chocolate chips, sprinkle the top with 7 or 8 morsels and press them into the dough slightly.

Step 3: Place the pancake in a cup in the microwave. Remember, every microwave cooks differently. I recommend setting the timer for 30 seconds and then increasing it every 10 seconds. My pancake was cooked in 40 seconds and set up nicely after sitting in the hot cup for a minute. The closer you get to the one-minute mark, the more likely the pancake will taste dry.
*FYI, I placed my first pancake in the microwave to cook for one minute, and it was dry and crumbly. Be careful not to overcook the pancake. I think it takes no more than a 45-second cook time.*
Step 4: Let the pancake sit for a minute or two before serving. This helps the pancake set up.

Step 5: Add the desired toppings to the pancake in the cup. I recommend starting with butter and syrup first (if that’s your thing) before adding fruit, nuts, whipped cream, etc.
FAQs
Are Microwave Pancakes Better Than Traditionally Cooked Pancakes?
Nothing compares to the homemade taste of a classic pancake cooked on a griddle or in a frying pan. They are more tender and fluffy. A pancake cooked in a microwave is still delicious but a bit denser in texture.
How Long Should I Microwave Bisquick Pancakes?
While every microwave cooks differently, cooking a Bisquick pancake in a cup should take no longer than one minute. If the pancake overcooks, it will be dry and crumbly.

A little plane. Could use some salt and maple syrup and maybe a little vanilla. We added chocolate chips and that made it taste a lot better but for only two ingredients it’s pretty good and the texture is really nice. I recommend heating it up for like like 40 seconds.
Yes, some butter and maple syrup are recommended. I found 40 seconds to work great for my microwave too. Anything over that it might taste too dry.
