The ultimate homemade Zucchini Bread recipe! It’s beyond delicious, and I can’t help but think of my grandma.

This post is all about how to make homemade Zucchini Bread like grandma.
I have this memory of my grandma’s Zucchini Bread, and it always tasted so moist, so delicious, and so warm and cozy, just like her. I looked everywhere trying (and hoping) to find her recipe, but I had no luck.
I started with good ole Google to research Zucchini Bread recipes to find one whose ingredients sounded similar to my grandma’s. Sally’s Baking Addiction hit it right on the nose, and I have to say it took me right back to when my grandma would bring over a fresh loaf. The sweet spices, shreds of Zucchini, and walnuts all culminate to deliver an incredibly delicious treat.
Sally’s recipe is straightforward, with the longest part being the baking and cooling time. I highly recommend enjoying a piece of this bread in the morning with a cup of hot coffee. Enjoy!

How To Make Grandma’s Zucchini Bread, Step-by-Step

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9 x 5 loaf pan with parchment paper or spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Step 2: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl until combined. Set aside.

Step 3: In a medium bowl, using a stand or hand mixer, mix the oil, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla until combined. Whisk in the shredded zucchini.

Step 4: Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Gently mix or whisk until just combined; do not overmix. Fold in any optional add-ins like chopped walnuts. The batter is slightly thick.

Step 5: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 55-70 minutes. (I like to loosely cover the bread with aluminum foil halfway through to prevent heavy browning on top.) Baking times vary, so keep an eye on yours. The bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out *mostly* clean with zero raw batter. Remove the bread from the oven and set on a wire rack.

Step 6: Cool the bread in the pan for 1 hour before removing it from the pan. You can slice the bread now, but the center will still be warm and may not slice neatly. For neat slices, keep the bread on a wire rack as it cools, then slice once it’s cool.

Step 7: Cover and store the leftover bread at room temperature for up to 3-4 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

What is the secret to good Zucchini Bread?
There are a couple of secrets for excellent zucchini bread. First, to keep moisture in the zucchini, don’t squeeze or blot dry the shredded zucchini. Second, buy small to medium-sized squash, aka zucchini. Lastly, do not overmix the batter.

Yes! I recommend using semi-sweet chocolate chips and adding one cup to the batter.
